What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is one of the Mobile Payments solutions available to CNCBI credit cardmembers. It provides a fast, easy and private way to pay in stores using your compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, and within some apps on your compatible iPhone or iPad. Simply add your CNCBI Visa or Mastercard credit card to Apple Wallet and you can make payments using Apple Pay.
What devices are compatible with Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is currently available on the following devices, with the latest iOS or WatchOS :
iPhone model which support In app and in store payment:
iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone SE and any other later models;
Apple Watch model which support in store payment:
Apple Watch when paired with an iPhone 5 or later models;
iPad model which support in-app payment:
iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 3 and later models.
Will my card work with Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is applicable to CNCBI Visa and Mastercard credit card (Including Principal and Supplementary Card), but not applicable to CNCBI NFC Motion Credit Card and Dollar$mart Card.
What do I need to use Apple Pay?
- You must have an eligible Apple device
- The latest version of iOS or WatchOS
- An eligible CNCBI Visa or Mastercard credit card
- Set “Hong Kong” as Region in your Apple device
- Set “Touch ID” or “Passcode” on your device
With the above, you can proceed to add a credit card to Apple Pay to enjoy the fast, easy and private way to pay.
How to set up Apple Pay?
To use Apple Pay, you can directly add your credit card to your compatible Apple device:
For iPhone,
- Open the Wallet app
- Tap the plus sign in the upper right corner
- Select "Next" and use your iSight camera to enter the card information
- Follow the on-screen instructions and accept relevant terms of use
- Complete the verification by inputting one-time password sent by the Bank via mobile SMS
For Apple Watch,
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone
- Tap "Wallet & Apple Pay" and select “Add a Credit or Debit Card”
- Select "Next" and use your iSight camera to enter the card information
- Follow the on-screen instructions and accept relevant terms of use
- Complete the verification by inputting one-time password sent by the Bank via mobile SMS
For iPad,
- Go into Settings
- Tap "Wallet & Apple Pay" and select "Add Credit or Debit Card"
- Select "Next" and use your iSight camera to enter the card information
- Follow the on-screen instructions and accept relevant terms of use
- Complete the verification by inputting one-time password sent by the Bank via mobile SMS
If you have registered your credit card in iTunes account, your device will prompt you to input the card’s security code to add that card from iTunes account.
When I add a card, I receive an SMS prompt asking for an authorization code. What is the authorization code and why is it required?
For security purposes, we will ask you to enter an authorization code to confirm your identity. If prompted, please follow the on-screen instructions to receive and enter the authorization code. If you fail to enter the authorization code, or if the authorization code has expired, please call our Customer Services Hotline on (852) 2280 1288
Where can I use Apple Pay?
You can use Apple Pay in stores where Apple Pay logo is stated on contactless payment terminals. You can also settle payment in app where Apple Pay is provided as a payment option. For acceptance of the usage of Apple Pay, the merchant’s decision shall be final and conclusive.
Can I use Apple Pay overseas?
Yes, you can use Apple Pay overseas in the stores where Apple Pay logo is stated on contactless payment terminals. You are advised to bring your physical credit card with you for travel in case Apple Pay is not accepted.
Do I need to connect to the Internet when using Apple Pay?
No, network data is not required for using Apple Pay. But there are chances that may need internet access for setting Apple Pay or update your transaction record.
Does it cost anything to use Apple Pay?
No. Our Bank does not charge you for using Apple Pay.
Can I earn bonus point or cash rebate by using Apple Pay?
Yes. You can receive bonus point or cash rebate which is just the same as using your physical credit card.
Is there any limit on each Apple Pay transaction?
We do not set a limit for each transaction and you can perform Apple Pay transactions up to the available credit limit. Subject to the setting of the contactless terminal, there may be a transaction limit of HK$500 or HK$1,000. For transactions that are not accepted by Apple Pay, please use your physical credit card for payment.
Where can I check my transactions record?
You can check all your transactions made via Apple Pay on credit card statement. Other than that, you can also see the last Apple Pay transaction made via your device under your card in Wallet. When you tap the “i” button in the bottom right corner, you will see the last 10 transactions.
How do I set my CNCBI Credit Card as default card?
The first card you add to Wallet is your default card. To set your CNCBI credit card as default, go to Wallet, tap your CNCBI credit card and drag it to the front of all the cards. Moreover, you can also go to Settings> Wallet & Apple Pay. Tap “Default Card” and select your CNCBI credit card to make it the default card.
Can I use Apple Pay in a ”jailbroken” device?
No. Apple Pay can only work on device which is not “jailbroken”.
Can I load more than one card?
Yes, Apple Pay allows a maximum of 8 credit cards to be loaded to the Wallet. And the same credit card can be added to a maximum of 20 Apple devices.
Can I continue to use my physical card after I added/removed my CNCBI Credit Card to Apple Pay?
Yes, no matter after you added/removed a credit card to Apple Pay or not, you may continue to use your physical credit card as usual.
How do I get refund from something I paid via Apple Pay?
If you need to return a purchase made with Apple Pay, you will have to bring along your physical credit card and request the merchant to issue the refund back on your credit card. For verification purposes, you may be asked to provide the last four digits of your Device Account Number to the merchant. This number can be found in the "Settings" menu in the Apple Pay app.

Is Apple Pay secure?
Apple Pay is a secure way to make payments. When you added your card to Apple Pay, instead of using your actual card numbers, a unique Device Account Number will be used. Apple Pay does not send your actual credit card Number, name with your payment in the app and will not share with the merchant.
What is tokenization?
Tokenization is a method of replacing your sensitive payment card information (Credit Card Number, Expiry Date, Security Code, etc.) with a device-specific “Token” which acts as a surrogate value. In mobile payments, Tokens are used to protect your payment information and to reduce the security risks inherent to physical credit cards. Your card information is never stored in your phone.
What card data is stored on the device?
When you added your credit card to Apple Pay, instead of using your actual card numbers, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in a dedicated chip [Secure Element] in iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. When you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment so your actual card numbers are not shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment. And unlike credit cards, on iPhone and iPad every payment requires Touch ID or a passcode, and Apple Watch must be unlocked.
Can anyone other than me able to use my device for payment?
Anyone with your device “Passcode” or a fingerprint registered to your device will be able to authorize transactions using your credit card with Apple Pay. You must keep your device safe and secure, and your device “Passcode” secret. Do not let anyone else to have their fingerprint registered to your device while your credit card is registered with it.
What if I lost my card?
Please contact us immediately at (852) 3603 7899 to report loss card. Your physical card will be deactivated, and you will not be able to continue to use Apple Pay with this card.
What should I do if I lost my iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch?
If your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch is lost or stolen, you can go to icloud.com or use the “Find My iPhone” app to suspend or permanently remove your card(s) from that device. If your device is turned off or is not connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network, the action will be processed once it is online again. Alternatively, you may also call our Credit Card Loss Card hotline (852) 3603 7899 immediately to suspend the virtual account on your device, but your physical credit card will not be affected.
If I change my device, can I continue to use Apple Pay?
Yes, but you need to add your credit card to Apple Pay again.
If I receive a renewal card, do I need to update the card information in Apple Pay?
Yes. If a card you have previously registered on Apple Pay is renewed, you need to register the Apple Pay with your new card again. Before you do the provisioning again, you need to remove the old card from the Apple Wallet first.
If I receive a replacement card with the same card number, do I need to update my credit card information with Apple Pay on my existing device?
No. If you receive a replacement card with the same card number, expiry date and security code, your mobile device will connect to your replacement card automatically. You can continue to use your card in Apple Pay to make transactions when you receive and activate your replacement card.
If I receive a replacement card with the different card number, do I need to update my credit card information with Apple Pay on my existing device?
Yes. If you receive a replacement card with the different card number or expiry date or security code, your mobile device will not connect to your replacement card automatically. You need to activate your replacement card and register the Apple Pay with your new card again, so that you can continue to use your card in Apple Pay to make transactions. Before you register your new card to Apple Pay again, you may need to remove the old provisioned credit card from the Apple Pay Wallet.
What happens when I reset, format, or update my device?
When performing a factory data reset, format, or updated, all payment information in Apple Pay will be deleted. You will need to set up and enter your credit card(s) information into Apple Pay again after your device has been reset.
What happens when I change my device to a new model?
If you change my device to a new model, you will need to add your card(s) to Apple Wallet again. Please ensure that you remove your card(s) from any device before selling, exchanging, or disposing of them. You can remove your card by selecting “Remove Card” after tapping the “i” button in the bottom right corner or go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card that you want to remove, then tap “Remove Card”.
If I have to repair, sell or no longer use my device, what should I do?
You can consider removing all your cards by selecting “Remove Card” after tapping the “i” button in the bottom right corner or go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, tap the card that you want to remove, then tap “Remove Card”.
What happens if my device does not recognize my fingerprint?

How can I do to keep my device and card registered with Apple Pay security protected?
- Set a screen lock – do not choose any personal identification number as password that is easy to guess by any other person.
- Make sure all Apps are downloaded from trusted sources.
- Do not visit any suspected website and accessing website through hyperlinks embedded.
- Safeguard y our device.
- Do not disclose password on your device to others.
- Do not add others’ fingerprint in your device.
