“Payment Connect” powered by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and People’s Bank of China, aims to provide a secure, efficient and convenient real-time cross-border payment service to our customers.

How to transfer via Payment Connect?


  • 1 Login inMotion and click “Transfer/FPS” in dashboard.
  • 2 Click “Payment Connect”
  • 3 Input payee’s information (Mobile no. / Account info.), if you have made transaction previously, you may also select from Recent Payees
  • 4 Input transaction amount. Then swipe to confirm after verifying the transaction details.
  • 5 The transaction instruction has been submitted. You can click “Save Image” to save this page for reference.

 

Frequently Asked Questions for Payment Connect

What service does the Payment Connect function provide?

Payment Connect supports real-time CNY transfer to Mainland China financial institutions that subscribe ‘Payment Connect’ Service. The settlement of this real-time transfer will depend on the handling of receiving financial institution.
You are also able to receive payments from a mainland China’s account through Payment Connect by using your FPS proxy ID (mobile number, email address, FPS ID) or bank account number.

Who can use Payment Connect Northbound Service?

HKID holders who opened an account with the Bank can use this service via inMotion for Northbound (Hong Kong to The Mainland) P2P remittance.

Are there any service charges for funds transfer to other bank account via Payment Connect?

There is no charge from our bank if you pay or receive money via Payment Connect, but other banks or service providers may have different charging arrangement.

What are the currencies that can be transferred through Payment Connect?

You can make a CNY transfer to mainland China through Payment Connect with your HKD and CNY account(s) held in the bank.
HKD will be converted to CNY based on the foreign exchange rate of the Bank if you choose to debit from HKD accounts. The exchange rate and exchange amount will be displayed in the transfer page.
You can also receive payments in HKD or CNY from mainland China.

What is the Northbound Payment Connect service hours?

If you use CNY debit account for fund transfer, the service hours are 7x 24.
If you use HKD debit account for fund transfer, the service hours are from 8am on Monday to 1pm on Saturday (including Hong Kong public holidays but December 25 and January 1).

What is the Northbound Payment Connect daily transaction limit?

Northbound Payment Connect is subject to a daily transfer limit of HKD10,000 and the annual transfer limit of HKD200,000. You can go to “Settings” > “Limit Settings” to view and update your transaction limit via inMotion.

Will Northbound Payment Connect be limited to same name transfer only?

No. Northbound Payment Connect supports P2P remittance from and to same name account(s) or non-same name account(s).

Can I amend or cancel my instruction after it has been submitted?

Your instruction cannot be amended or cancelled after submission. You can't stop the instruction once the transfer has come into effect. Please review the payment details such as payee's name and account number carefully before making an instant transfer.

Which banks I can transfer to via Payment Connect?

You can transfer / receive funds with designated mainland banks via Payment Connect, including Bank of China, Bank of Communications, China Construction Bank, China Merchants Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, etc. You can view the full list of designated mainland banks via Payment Connect on inMotion.

How will I receive the confirmation alerts for Payment Connect?

Confirmation alert will be sent to your latest email address registered with the bank, as well as SMS.
Moreover, if you have registered our “WeChat Account Binding” service, an additional alert will be sent to you via WeChat.

Can I use Payment Connect to make a payment in other currency or from a foreign currency account that's neither RMB account nor HKD account?

No. Payment Connect only supports Renminbi payments made from either RMB account or HKD account.

Do I need to register with FPS before using it to transfer funds to and receive funds from the Mainland payer?

If you have already registered with FPS, you can use this service through your existing account without any additional registration. You can use the mobile banking application provided by participating institutions that support this service to transfer and receive cross border funds instantly.
